July Cupcake

So, just to keep up with my monthly cupcake making:
On Sunday my family came over for dinner so I made lemon raspberry cupcakes with lemon cream cheese frosting. They didn't rise when they baked very much, so I gotta tweak them a little next time I make them. You know your cupcakes are good when you put 22 on the table and within a few minutes you only end up with 5 left (although it could have had more to do with their size than their taste). I will definitely be making these again because I loved them.

Officially 4

Baylee officially turned 4 on the 19th. Since her party was the Saturday before, and she's been really into birthdays lately, I wanted to make sure she still had a special birthday. She requested pancakes for breakfast, and then we took her to a fun pool in the area.

Baylee the birthday girl and Ben at the pool. The pool has a couple of waterslides, a lazy river, and a play area for the kids.

This is the kiddie area (Baylee and Payton and I are out there). The whole pool is about 2 or 2 1/2 feet? It wasn't very deep, even Payton could stand in it. Perfect for my kids, and Baylee loved going down the slide (although she wouldn't go down the yellow one until we were leaving).

Both of my kids loved the pool. I was surprised at how much Payton loved sticking his face in the water. He thought it was the greatest thing to do ever, and kept doing it over and over. Even Baylee tried to actually swim a little.

For a late lunch/early dinner, Baylee chose to eat at Costa Vida. She loves that place. Check out her headband that she had to wear with her already pulled back in a hairband hair. After Costa Vida, we picked up Baylee's free dozen doughnuts from Kripsy Kreme. It was the cutest thing watching her and her daddy walk to the car with her birthday doughnuts. I'm sad I didn't get a picture. That night my parents, brother, grandparents and uncle came over for presents and cake.

Present time.

I love some of the expressions Baylee had that I caught on camera. She is always very excited and thankful no matter what she gets.

My little girl asked for a Batman car, and for some reason we filled her request.

And then we got her a lightsaber also. She is turning into a little bit of a tomboy. She is getting a little obsessed with Star Wars lately.

And of course, you gotta have cake and ice cream. We saved the bottom tier of her cake from her party, and Baylee helped Ben patch up the top of it. I believe it had a candy cane and star shapes, along with a few other random ones on it.

Happy Birthday to my sweet, energetic, beautiful little girl. I can't believe you've been a part of our family for 4 years now! I feel so blessed to be your mommy, and look forward to the years ahead. Although I wouldn't mind if you'd slow down your growing up a little (and your endless energy).

Toy Story Mania

The Saturday before Baylee's birthday, we threw her a little Toy Story Party with just a couple friends. It was so much fun, and since it was a party, there's a lot of pictures!

Some of the goodies the kids went home with. I think they all made out pretty well.

When each kid arrived, they got to pick out a horse that they took home with them at the end of the party. Baylee chose the black one. The kids had a lot of fun with their horses, and rode them around to the different things they did.

Baylee wanted everyone to dress up as a character from Toy Story. Here's her as Jessie (my mom and I made the costume and Payton's vest), and Payton as Woody. Ok, I know Payton's shirt is a stretch, but it is so hard to find long sleeve shirts in Arizona in July. I went to at least 5 stores just for Baylee's. Even the hat was impossible to find. This one is one of those woven straw ones that had a Sheriff star on it. I just painted it red. I think the costumes turned out pretty well though, and are more than likely going to be reused for Halloween (at least Baylee's).
Of course Baylee always poses for the camera, so here's one of her Jessie poses as she's waiting for her friends to show up.

As we were waiting for everyone to show up. the kids got to decorate Sheriff badges. They were just wooden badges that we let them color on with markers and put Toy Story stickers on. We also put out coloring pages and had them decorate their own tails for Pin The Tail on Bullseye.
The party crew. We had two Jessies, a Bo Peep, and two Andys.

After decorating, Ben had them play a game while I finished cleaning up the table and getting ready to make lunch.

The kids made their own "Pizza Planet" pizzas. It was interesting to see the toppings they chose to put on their pizzas. Connor loaded up on olives, while Ella piled on the squash.
While the pizzas were cooking we played Pin The Tail on Bullseye. I didn't get a chance to take a picture of the kids, so here's that game and the one they played with Ben.

We also played a game where the kids took turns riding their horses to rescue toys. It was a pretty big hit. I love that 3-4 year olds are easy to entertain. They also loved just playing in the toy room, and a couple of them ran up there any chance they got.

After eating pizzas, Baylee opened her presents. She got some good ones!

What's a party without a pinata?

The kids didn't break it open, so we had them pull the strings. Plenty of candy for everyone!

Ben made Baylee's cake. It turned out really well! I wanted to make it, but I ran out of time. Ben's becoming quite the baker/cake maker though. Baylee wanted vanilla cake with strawberry filling and chocolate frosting.

Blowing out the candles. It worked out perfect for the kids to finish up by eating cake while their parents came to pick them up.

Our family after the party. Ben was Ken, and I was either Bo Peep or Western Barbie (I had a hard time finding a quick costume). Such a fun party! I'm excited to do another one next year (but it can definitely wait a year).

Happy Birthday To Me

So, I feel a little wierd writing about my own birthday, but it did happen. I turned a year older, and Ben and the kids did a great job at making sure it was a good day. It couldn't be too bad if your day starts out with your husband making you this for your bday:
Lemon bread french toast with a strawberry banana cream cheese mixture on top. It was good, but I was stuffed after sharing just one piece with Payton.
My mind's a little blurry, it's been a busy month so I can't remember exactly what order things happened in on my bday. I think we opened presents next, but I could be wrong. So, here's a couple of the present pictures:
Can you tell I love having my picture taken? I got some great gifts- Sprinkles cupcakes, a cute bracelet with pictures of the kids on it, a Barnes and Nobles gift card, and more pictures of the kids. I think the rest of the day went like this: Lunch at Joe's Farm Grill, one of my favorites, then to Krispy Kreme for my free dozen doughnuts. After that we came home, and I got a few phone calls from Ben's family. That night my parents watched the kids while Ben and I had a nice, quiet, kid-free dinner (so nice without kids climbing all over the table) at Liberty Market (another one of my favs), then hit Golfland for a round of mini-golf. It was a fun day, and Ben did a great job at planning it.
I didn't really ever have a birthday cake, but the Sunday before my birthday Ben made Chocolate Lava cakes for it. So, I guess that counts, right?
And let me tell you, they were delicious!

Cows Are Friends, Not Food

We've been eating Chick-fil-A a bit lately. Every Thursday in July they've been offering free Spicy Chicken Sandwiches from 2-5, so we've gone a couple of times for those. We snapped this picture of Baylee on one of our trips:

Chick-fil-A also had a cow appreciation day. If you dressed like a cow, you got a free meal. Sounded like a fun time for us! So, we got all cowed up with our friends, the Vans. We were a pretty good looking herd of grade A beef:

It was a fun night with good food and great friends.

Freedom Festival

For the 4th of July weekend, Mesa had a free Celebration of Freedom Festival. We went with our friends, the Vans, on Friday night, but got there a little late. We were trying to beat the heat, but it was still really warm even when the festival closed at 10. The kids had a ton of fun, and there was still a lot we didn't get to see so we went back on Saturday night for little more. Then we headed to my grandparents house to watch the festival's fireworks without the crowd. We loved spending the time with them, my dad, and brother, and it was so nice that they live so close to where the festival was. So here's the festival pictures:

The festival had a whole area for kids to get wet in. It was full of fun inflatable slides. This is Baylee and her boyfriend Trey waiting for their turns.

Baylee after going down one of the slides. It was pretty steep, but she loved it. The water in all the pools was pretty disgusting though.

Ok, one more of Baylee. This is one of the few that I actually got of her going down the slide.

And we have to have one of Payton. He wanted to get out and play too.

Our favorite friends, Mike and Heather, with the back of Connor's head.

Payton finally made in out of the stroller and into my arms. That boy doesn't like to feel like he's missing out. Can you tell that we were both sweating and gross?

Our little family in an old fire truck. It was pretty cool (not in a weather sense).

Baylee pretending to drive a newer fire truck.

Right around the time the festival was shutting down on Friday night, we found this huge monster truck!

Saturday night we found the game area. Baylee won a lot of cheap little toy prizes. She was so excited about the games and the prizes she won.

Ben and Payton while I was off taking Baylee to all the games.

Ben and the kids in front of a humvee.

They had a bunch of inflatable buildings and people dressed up to take you back to when the Declaration of Independence was signed and George Washington was President. It was neat to see.

We really enjoyed the Freedom Festival. It even had a motorcycle show on Friday and car show on Saturday. There was so much to do that even going two nights there were things we missed. Maybe next year.

Hairy Situation

My kids were in desperate need of some haircuts, so at the beginning of the month I finally gave them some. Baylee still hadn't ever had her hair cut, so I felt like I couldn't give Payton his first haircut before Baylee had hers. Here's the before and after shots (and don't pay attention to the dirty mirror and messy counter please!):

And then we had a little photo shooot when their hair was dryer:

Baylee's hair is a little shorter than what I was wanting, but she really wanted it short. I'm a little sad that it killed her curl, but she loves it and it turned out pretty cute.
