If Your Happy And You Know It...Please Just Take A Nap!

So earlier today Baylee was ready for her nap. She kept telling me she was tired and wanted one. We layed down on the Cuddlesac, like always, so she could go to sleep. She tends to get a little restless when she's trying to fall asleep, and we tend to go through the cycle of her having the choice to either lay down or go to her room for a time-out. I usually have to threaten a couple of times, put her down and just tell her to go to her room and let her cry for a minute, and then sometimes I actually have to put her in her room. Today was no different. So, we are laying down and she decides to jump up and sing "Happy and Know It Stomp Feet..." and starts stomping away. I think at this point I told her to go to her room just so she'd cry (that usually wears her out and sometimes makes her go to sleep faster). The whole process for today is kinda a blur, but eventually when I told her to go to her room she just looked at me with this huge grin on her face like "I know you're not really going to put me in there. Yeah right, you're funny, mommy..." So I picked her up and took her in her room and shut the door. She didn't really seem to care. She was quiet for a couple of minutes, and then decided she was ready to come out. I let her kinda cry for a minute, then I went to get her out. There was just one problem-she had locked the door. I knew she kinda knew how to do this, but Ben seemed to think that it wasn't a big deal and convinced me the lock was pretty easy to pick. Of course Baylee knows how to lock but not unlock (I asked her many time to try to unlock it but I don't think she had a clue). So, I got a bobby pin to try to rescue her, but not ever having picked a lock before, had no clue what I was doing and couldn't get it to work. When my brother was little he once purposely locked himself in his room by taking the door knob off his side so my Grandma couldn't get in (she was watching us). I thought maybe if I got the door knob off I could figure out a way to get Baylee's door unlocked. I forgot that our door knobs are pretty old and I didn't have much luck this way either. I called Ben, since Baylee was starting to get a little hysterical. He couldn't really explain to me how to open it, so he called his brother Mike. At this point I tried to go around the backyard and get in through the window, but it was closed pretty well. I went back in and tried to stick the doorknob back on. I grabbed the bobbypin and tried again, and it of course popped open within a few seconds. Baylee was completely quiet after that. Ben had called Mike and told him I no longer needed assistance, but he stopped by to check on us anyways, which was nice of him. Baylee fell asleep about ten seconds after we layed back down. So, I finally got her to sleep, but I don't think this method is going to win me any mom of the year awards. I don't think it's one I will try to repeat either.

I can just picture poor little Baylee and freaked out mom. I laughed so hard! Mike is so nice to come and check on you. It must have taken a while to calm your nerves after what happened!

Whitney locked herself in her room one time when she was about that age. Very freaky for a toddler! Luckily, we had the nicest maintenance men at our old apartments, and they came to the rescue.
Hope all is well for you guys!
