While we were in Maui, we took the road to Hana. It was beautiful, and we made a few stops along the way that made the trip worth it. I don't know if I ever want to do it again (I got a little car sick from turning around to help kids on all those twists and turns), but I'm so glad I got to experience it just once. Here's a few pictures from our adventures from the Hana trip:
At one stop on the roadside, we had lunch and then a few of us hiked up a very slippery and muddy hill to get to a waterfall. At the top of the hill was a canal-type thing. We had to walk across a narrow grate over the canal. Fall to one side, and you end up in the canal thing with pretty fast moving water, fall off the other side and you're basically falling off a cliff.
Ben and I made it across (as did the rest of the group), which was a little challenging in our slippery mud covered flip flops.
When we got to the waterfall, everyone jumped in and swam across. It took a lot of convincing to get me into that freezing cold water with my lack of swimming skills. I eventually did though, and some nice people took our picture under the waterfall.
And a close up, even if its a little blurry. (Thanks to my sil, Laura, for sending me the pictures!)
We also stopped at a black sand beach. It was in a national park type area. The view up top was gorgeous.
Baylee and Payton posing outside the bathroom area.
Baylee, of course, loved playing in the sand. The black sand was definitely a different experience. The texture was different and it was neat to see the different contrast against our skin.
Here's Payton with Ben's parent's before Ben took him in the water. Again, I loved the view.
A bunch of family in the water body surfing. Even Ben's mom got into it!
Baylee eventually joined in the fun with her grandma. The waves were pretty strong.
The last stop before heading back was the Seven Sacred Pools (I think that's what it was called). It also had a little walk in a national park type area, and was equally as breath-taking.
Ben and his sister, Jenny, and brother, Mike with Abby, crossing to get to the waterfall area.
Ben on the high rock, getting ready to jump (he can't read the signs that say no jumping), with Andre and Ashley on the lower rocks.
The beautiful view on the other side of us.

Baylee with her daddy, posing on the rocks.
Our Hana trip was so much fun, but if we ever do it again, I don't think we will head back in the dark with my father in law driving while I sit in the front with him (there are a lot of twisty and one lane roads). That was an adventure all in itself.
